Riding Motorcycles In High Winds: Is One Hand Is Better Than Two?



I don’t care what you ride, a big substantial cruiser like the Suzuki Boulevard C109R, or a light - weight sportbike like the Ninja 250R, one of the most hard times to ride is when you have a petulant wind screaming like a banshee across the road. If it’s a steady wind you can at lead off settle into it, strike an opportune lean angle, and trip. Until, of course, you come to a hillock or building or whatever that forthwith blocks that wind and for you’ve got to quickly redeem for that and the get back into your spare as away as you’ve gone past the obstruction.
It’s much worse when the wind is gusty. You’re swing along and Wham! You’re being pushed sidewise nearly waste the road, or sometimes worse, out of your passage into the oncoming pathway of traffic. Yikes! At times like that you nuzzle the upwind side of your course so it has to push you all the way across your lane before it puts you in danger.
Of course, while all this is works on, most riders have their hands clamped onto their grips in a death grip. It would take three guys to pry your fingers loose. After all, you’ve got adrenaline pipeline for you. This is enervating and wearing and no fun at all. And hey, riding motorcycles is supposed to be fun.
Well take passion, in that I’m about to impart a secret to how you can make this very unpleasant situation a lot better. Let go with one hand. Oh explicit, you’re saying. I’m struggling with all my might to keep the bike pipeline where I yen it to go, using two hands, and you’re telling me to use one? Are you unbalanced?
That’s OK, I understand. That’s what I would have uttered, too, until I discovered this light trick completely by accident. Here’s the deal. I was headed due east one day and the wind from the south was torrential. Fight it as I did, it still was pushing me toward, and sometimes over the locus line, and I was uncommonly glad licensed was nearly no other traffic on this road.
I had been through this kind of portion before. Once I rode an entire day across northern New Mexico with nihility screaming desolate out of the north. On that day I just took to resting my juice on the nihility. That worked surprisingly well, and was much more relaxing than attack the nothingness, erase that every season we came to a hill or a truck passed pipeline the other behest I had to schmo myself back straightforward in a expedite. And sharp were other times.
On this point, however, I was just flap my way along and therefrom I needed to do significant. I don’t cite what. Feasibly I needed to ulcer my nose, Conceivably I wanted to transform my helmet. It could have been halfway information. The limitation is, to do whatever it was, I had to let go with one hand. And lo and behold, when I did, it was suddenly a complete lot easier to weight the bike. What in the world?
So I played with it. I tried riding for awhile with one hand and therefore I would ride with two. Every tempo I switched to two hands I was quickly back to fighting the wind. Every pace I let go with one it all got so much easier.
Here’s what I figured out. You may not intend it, but when you’ve got two hand on the grips in high winds, quota of what you’re sophistication is fighting yourself. You’re putting contrary forces on the handlebar that you’re not unbroken aware of. Let go with one hand and now you’re just navigation the bike. And unlike when your other hand is contrary you, the bike goes very young right where you yearning it to go.
